Entry into force of the Minamata Convention on Mercury

On 18 May 2017, the EU and seven Member States (Bulgaria, Denmark, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Romania and Sweden) deposited at the UN Headquarters in New York their instruments of ratification of the Minamata Convention on Mercury.

As the 50 ratifications has been exceeded, the threshold for the entry into force of the Convention is now overpassed meaning that the Convention should be implemented in 90 days.
